Chalk Talk

James Nesbitt

Denver-based artist Chris Carlson who is known for his work with 3D chalk illusions created a great stop motion Tetris game. The shading, perspective and motion is incredibly spot-on.

Grow Big or Grow Home

James Nesbitt

“You should have seen it. It was a nightmare,” said Fred Haberman, a local marketing executive who is part of the Urban Organics team.

But Haberman and his partners saw potential in the 105-year-old building, and they’re now transforming it into an indoor, urban farm. Most of the building has been cleaned up, and by mid-2013 there will be tanks full of tilapia and racks lined with fresh lettuce and herbs. More...

More Realer than Really Real

James Nesbitt

Ron Mueck's work is hypnotic. I saw his work first hand at the Warhol Museum a few years ago. Looks like his latest show is coming up this April in Paris.

The artist alters the typical size ratio of his characters in relation to the rest of the world, allowing them to either fill an entire room with their hunched over bodies or comfortably slumber on a countertop.

Whether Mueck's creations are giants or dwarfs, the artist allots time to each one to perfect the most minute details. Every wrinkle of the skin, twinkle in the eye, and placement of hair is meticulously crafted. They aren't smooth, hairless creatures without any physical fault either. Mueck captures the imperfection of each character's unique body and features.

Mueck will be exhibiting a number of his sculptures, 3 new pieces to accompany several of his recent works, at Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain in Paris, starting April 16th and running through September 29th.

Ollin Trujillo's up-dn Chair

Bravo Ollin, what a wonderful combination of wit, functionality and just roll-up-the-sleeves-and-get-it-done mentality. The chair is elegant in it's simplicity while retaining a humanistic hand-created quality.

" The idea for the up-dn chair came to me while chatting with a friend. I sketched out a chair that served as a rocker and as a regular stationary chair. After various iterations, refining and defining the proportions, I eventually decided that the only way to get it right was to just build it. After many hours of fabrication, it took shape." - Ollin Trujillo
